A look back at March...

Well, March certainly did not go as planned at all.  I think that's because I was trying to hard to control it.  I wanted a "theme" for the month (can you tell what it was?), and I wanted to keep all the pictures the exact same size.  This resulted in creative frustration and a severe lack of productivity.  This blog was started to just draw stuff and post "whatever"  and here I was saying "No, this month, the drawings must be this, this, and that!"  So it resulted in a hindered about of art.

Also, my webcomic, Waste of Time, started back up and I think I was taking the "creative" edge that I had pulled from this, out on the comic.  I was getting very ambitious with the art there, and not using it in the experimentation realm of this blog.

So only 8 pictures for an entire month, not  a good month at all.  Will aim to be more loose and fluid in April, even though a friend of mine had a sweet idea for a theme.  But I think I'll step back from themes for a bit... and just, draw!

In a side note, I'd love to have that monitor setup.

Pascal (Progressed?)

Yeesh, almost 2 weeks of no posts...  for shame Bob!   SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME!

Anywho, I started this Pascal drawing back in January cuz I was aching to do some shading/coloring with my Crayola's, and with Tangled coming out on BluRay yesterday, I was like "Hrmm, I should finish that drawing".  So here it is... Pascal in his fully colored glory!  I started the drawing in Crayola colored pencil (mostly the head) or see the Pascal in Progress (PIP?) post from January 5th, but I had left my Crayolas at work, so I pulled out my Prismacolors to finish this guy up.  So the head, Crayloa.  Everything else, Prisma.  Can you see the difference?

Stay away from my gold!

I was gonna have this be a lot more angry, and possibly scary looking, but decided to tone it down a bit.  There's enough evil leprechauns in this world, that freak on the Lucky Charms box, the classic films staring Warwick Davis.  But, anytime I hear somebody say "Leprechaun" or I see a Leprechaun, I immediately think... of this.

Happy Saint Pat's everybody!

It's not easy being green...

It's been a week since I've posted something on here... shame on me!  But I've been busy, as my webcomic is back into production... if you haven't been exposed to yet, go read Waste of Time!!!

Anywho one of my favorite things about the muppets is they run... head tilted back arms flailing every which direction and kind of a bobbing motion as they exit stage left.  Love a good muppet run, so that's what I tried to draw here, but instead it kinda looks like Kermit is having a heart attack.   I really should learn flash, then I could of animated it instead, and captured the awesome muppet run.

ASH Wednesday!

I have some "traditions" when it comes to movie watching.  Like I watch certain movies on certain days.  For example, on Nov. 5th, I watch "V for Vendetta".   St. Patty's day I usually watch Boondock Saints.  But today is... Ash Wednesday.   So we watch the Evil Dead Trilogy and follow the adventures of ASH!

Am I a dork?

Mardi Gras 2011

I know the following about Mardi Gras.

  • It's an annual celebration.
  • It's "main" area of celebration is New Orleans, LA
  • It supposed to end on Fat Tuesday (which is today), but has run longer.
  • I wanna say it's French? in origin?
  • Girls get bead necklaces in exchange for showing their boobies.

So based on all that...  I drew the above image.  And while some of you pervy peeps might be wanting to see the rest of them boobies, I'll let you know... I didn't draw anymore of the boobies.  The paper ends right where you see it ending in the picture.  I could show you more of the hands if you wish.  You want to see those?  Show you some hands?  You're on the Internet, you can find boobies elsewhere.

I just realized it was Mardi Gras, and I wanted to draw something related to it, so there you go.  Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday.  Wonder what I'll draw for that...  (If you know me, you can probably guess what I'll be drawing).

Happy Belated Birthday, Theodor Geisel!

Yesterday was Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel's birthday.  I had intended to draw up this lil tiny tribute to the man yesterday, but life got int he way.  So here it is today.  WooT!

I grew up reading the works of Mr. Geisel, and I hope to share them with my children.  I also recall my senior year of high school English.  The final.  The LAST grade in the subject for my high school career...  the assignment?  READ a children's book to the class.  Not a report.  Not try to write one yourself.  Nope.  The assignment was to pick a children's book and READ IT TO THE CLASS!   That still stands out in my head the weirdest Final EVER! Especially since the teacher was VERY hard for the majority of the year, it seemed odd that the FINAL would be so easy.

Still, I picked my favorite "Green Eggs and Ham", and read it to the class.  I got an A.

Mighty Morphin Power... squirrel?

So I wanted to draw the Green Power Ranger this morning, throwback to my child hood.  But realized I wouldn't have enough time before my "day job" to get it to the level of awesome I'd like it.  Maybe Thursday or Friday...  we'll see.  But I still had to get the "martial artist" out of me.  So while Googl'ing martial artist poses for reference, there was a random image of a squirrel in the mix.  My brain put them together... and whala... a squirrel wanting to kick ass and take names.

When coloring it digitally, I really wanted to recreate a watercolor feel to it... I think it came out well, and I didn't use the Burn/Dodge tools of Photoshop, just layering of color for the watercolor feel.  Think it came out well.
